Google the term ‘Mobile Service’ and it will surely lead you down several different pathways of useless information. It might even land you a new cell phone contract. Okay, failed attempts at humor aside, let’s cut right through all the clutter and get down to the newest kid on the block. Mobile Service encompasses everything from car maintenance, furnace cleaning, satellite installation, carpet cleaning and so on. You get it. Anything that comes to your door. Right? Well, sort of.

In the stricter sense of the term, and for the purposes of this article, we do NOT define mobile service as a delivery of goods per se, such as pizza, furniture, groceries. Those mobile activities are all about a quick doorstep transaction that does not include the intrusion of a service worker in your home. The Mobile Service I am speaking of is more about connecting the dots between a service, a method of transport, and a human being trying to balance the customer’s precious time with his/her service route and work schedule.

The Mobile Service industry has taken a giant leap in the last twelve months due to necessity brought about by COVID 19. With that has also come the rebirth, or reboot if you will, of newer more innovative versions of customer scheduling softwares. These tools are an absolute ‘MUST’ if you are wading into these waters of Mobile Service. Creating a satisfied customer is all about efficiently closing the transaction. This means understanding that everybody’s time is important, including yours. This also means understanding the crucial importance of a customer scheduling software that understands geography.

You simply cannot efficiently run your mobile service business using a customer scheduling software that thinks you are a stationary location store.

Robert Ducharme is CEO of Routezilla, a one-of-a-kind Geography driven customer scheduling software that is designed for service companies who must visit customer locations.
